When I talk with parents, I always refer this book that is written by a 14 year old boy who has autism. It is about a 15 minute read, and it is really helpful to give insight about how a child with autism may feel. Preston's siblings, grandparents, and of course his parents have all read this book many times over. I even used it in the special needs ministry when we trained volunteers and parents. Recently our Preston has decided to pick the book up and read it on his own. At the age of 9, Preston is learning about himself. His face lights up when he reads it because it just makes sense. I gather it doesn't make him feel alone. If you know anyone who has autism, this book really is a must read!
